Habitat Partitioning Examples One way that species can partition resources is by living in different areas of a habitat versus their competitors. One common example is the distribution of lizards in the Caribbean islands. The lizards mostly eat the same types of foodââ¬âinsects. However, they can live in different microhabitats within the context of their larger habitat. For example, some lizards can live on the forest floor while others may live higher up in the habitat in trees. This differentiation and partitioning of resources based on their physical location allows the different species to coexist more effectively with one another. Food Partitioning Examples Additionally, species can more effectively coexist based on food partitioning. For example, among species of lemur monkeys, food may be discriminated by the chemical characteristics of the food. Food partitioning based on plant chemistry can play an important role. This allows different species to coexist while eating similar yet chemically different foods. Similarly, species may have an affinity for different parts of the same food. For example, one species may prefer a different part of the plant than another species, allowing them to effectively coexist. Some species may prefer the leaves of the plant while others prefer the plant stems. Species can also partition food based on other characteristics such as different activity patterns. One species may consume most of their food during a certain time of day while another may be more active at night. Long-Term Effects of Resource Partitioning By partitioning out resources, species can have long-term coexistence with one another in the same habitat. This allows both species to survive and thrive rather than one species causing the other to go extinct, as in the case of complete competition. The combination of intraspecific and interspecific competition is important in relation to species. When different species occupy slightly different niches in relation to resources, the limiting factor for population size becomes more about intraspecific competition than interspecific competition. Similarly, humans can have profound effects on ecosystems, particularly in causing species to go extinct. I have been actively involved in teaching, tutoring, and mentoring high school and undergraduate research students throughout my doctoral and postdoctoral work at the City University of New York (CUNY). In jungle life,sometimes many animals have difficulty finding foods. In zoos,zoo keepers supply animals with food at a certain time. The animals would have an increased life span because there are no predators and they will never starve for food. In addition,there are many interesting facilities in the zoo. Animals can use them for fun. Furthermore,keeping animals in zoos is convenient for entertainment of human beings. Zoos provide a way for people to take a closer look at animals and see how they behave. People visit zoos not only for entertainment but also for educational purposes. Many schools visit zoos to know more about endangered species and the way to conserve them. However,there are also some disadvantages of keeping animals in the zoo. Firstly,it canââ¬â¢t be denied that some zoos misuse and violate the animal rights. The workers in some zoos treat animals in a cruel manner. Secondly,animals are kept in zoos for a long time ,they may lose their instinct ability to survive in the natural environment. Animals are equal to human beings. Nobody can suffer from depriving of liberty. In conclusion,we have no right to keep animals in zoos. In my opinion,it is wrong to keep animals in zoos. We should respect animal rights. Animals can survive in the natural environment by themselves. If human beings want to know more about animals,they can read books and search information on the Internet or watch TV instead of visiting zoos. Pilgrimage is defined to a journey to a holy and sacred place where people show their devotion to their faith. For this assignment, I will do a great deal of research from different sources on Christian pilgrimage ,allowing me to examine the different religious activities that Christians take part in when they go on a pilgrimage. Firstly, I will discuss a brief history upon Christian pilgrimage. The idea behind pilgrimage has been thought of in many different ways throughout time, but all that Christians know of is that pilgrimage originated from ancient Rome. Saint Helena, the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine found a Cross which was thought by Christians ,as the true cross upon which Jesus was crucified. Lourdes is a French town at the front of the Pyrenees and has become one of the most important places for Christian pilgrimages. During the eighteenth century, a French girl named Bernadette had a series of visions within this town. She had eighteen apparitions in total, and it was during the ninth that the vision revealed herself to the Virgin Mary. During this vision Mary told Bernadette to dig in a specific site ,where Bernadette would discover a spring. A spring of water began to flow at the place she indicated. Gradually, Lourdes became a place for pilgrims, Pilgrims arrive in great numbers throughout the year from all over the world. There are special masses , Pilgrims light up candles, sing Lourdes hymns and pray; the rosary is a form of prayer used by pilgrims at Lourdes. The main attraction to Lourdes is for healing purposes. There are twenty mysteries reflected on the Rosary which are based on the incidents on the life of Jesus and the Virgin Mary that are celebrated in the Liturgy. Pilgrims bottle the water and take it home for those who are disabled and were unable to make the trip. At Lourdes, people can experience a feeling of peacefulness in Gods presence. The pilgrims whom bath in the spring, wear special robes so that when they get out, there can get into their clothes without drying themselves which is an essential part of the bathing. I will now refer to the holy land, Christians of all nations and traditions visit the holy land when it is safe to do so, it is the place where Jesus lived and taught. A pilgrimage makes the accounts of what happened more relevant, part of their own experience. In Bethlehem there is nothing left of the original stable. The spot, in which it is believed that Jesus was born, is a place which is now known as the church of the Nativity. Pilgrims go down into the small grotto where, on the floor, a silver star marks the place of Jesus birth. In Jerusalem pilgrims walk along the Via Dolorosa which was the route that Jesus took from Pilates judgment hall to Calvary where he was crucified. They stop to pray at the Stations of the Cross (the original places where Jesus stopped on his way to Calvary). The Via Dolorosa leads to the church of the Holy Sepulchre, inside this church is the place where Jesus was crucified and, in the other part of the building was the traditional place of his burial and the place where he rose from the dead. Elsewhere in the Holy land Christians may want to visit the river Jordon and collect some water from the river in which Jesus was baptized. Nazareth is another option, this is a place where Jesus grew up and a modern church covers the traditional site of the place where the Holy Family lived. Eucharist can be celebrated at the alters near the Sea of Galilee. Overall, I believe that Christians travel to pilgrimages to step aside from the day to day life to focus more strongly on their faith. At pilgrimages Christians can share their beliefs with other Christians from other countries. By this their faith is strengthened as they are becoming more aware that they are part of a worldwide fellowship. Some Christians may find their attitude to their faith does not change at all, hence continuing spiritually as though the pilgrimage had never happened.
